meet our members

Monica Luster became a member of the Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS on March 4, 2022. As she states, her sponsor was the "wonderful" Kadee Harcrow. At lunch one day, Monica reported the minute she met and overhead Kadee talking about the mission and goals of Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS, along with learning the purpose of this civic service organization, she knew she had to visit the club!

Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS is one of the most amazing groups and the members are incredible. Monica reported, it is a privilege and an honor to be a member of such a dedicated and hardworking group. Lubbock Monterey’s Chapter of AMBUCS believes in the motto: “Shoulders Together.”

According to Monica, it is truly an honor to be a part and represent something as incredible as this organization. Lubbock Monterey Chapter of AMBUCS’ mission focuses on mobility and independence for those with disabilities.

Monica worked in the Senior Placement industry for the least 13 years. Prior to that, she was in sales for a Fortune 500 Payroll Company, Paychex. Recently, Monica moved to Lubbock from Alabama to open a boutique memory care home with her business partner. In addition, she started a free placement service, Zia Senior Placement Specialists, to help families find the right retirement community, whether it is independent, assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing, while meeting their level of care needs, and is financially within their budget. This is so important, as families do not have the knowledge base or become overwhelmed when needing to place a loved one in a different setting from their current “home” environment. Each day, Monica believes she is truly blessed in helping families through the placement process. She states that she is paying it forward…as someone once helped her.

Interesting facts about Monica…she was raised by her father and both of her grandparents. Her father’s parents were from Hungary and Italy, and they lived well into their nineties. Monica has always been a caregiver… and states she “gets it, honestly!” Her father was the illustrator for Southern Living Magazine for 25 years. When her father was in his eighties, he was diagnosed with the beginning stages of Dementia. Today, Monica reports she is who she is, because of her father. In addition, she is beyond grateful for the time they had together!

Monica’s favorite pastime…fishing with her dad and playing softball with him for Southern Living. Christmas holidays were magical, as was cooking in the kitchen with her grandmothers.

Another important person in Monica’s life, and whom she is engaged to, is Mandy Goff. Congratulations to you two! In addition, Monica has a daughter who is now 28 years old, and a pet Schnauzer named “Raider”.

We are so grateful to have Monica Luster as a member of our Monterey AMBUCS Team, and whether you’re a long-time Lubbock resident or a newcomer, if you too would like to learn more about our mission and see about joining our Team, just JOIN US at one of our regular Monday lunches at the McKenzie/Merket Alumni Center on the Tech Campus. You’ll be glad you did!
