Jack Durbin is a 93-year old World War II veteran who served as a weather specialist from 1942-46 with the Army Air Corps in North Africa and the Middle East.

Mr. Durbin recently had lumbar disc surgery, and also had his left hip replaced. Angie McDonald (wife of Monterey AMBUCS member Gary McDonald) works at the VA, and recommended that Jack get fitted for an AmTryke therapeutic bike as a part of our Vet Bike Initiative to help improve his mobility and strength, and improve his range of motion.

Mr. Durbin received his new AmTryke at our regular Monday luncheon at the McKenzie/Merkett Alumni Center, where he was joined by his daughter Rene and her husband John Houser, and his two grandsons, Lon and Jesse Hillis. He obviously appreciated the new bike and adapted to it quickly as seen in the video below.

Mr. Durbin’s receipt of his AmTryke from Monterey AMBUCS was featured, along with additional information on his service, on KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock. (watch below)
