The Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS were joined today for our regular Monday luncheon at the Merkett Alumni Center by 1st Sgt Orlando Castillo, who is in charge of this year’s South Plains Marine CorpsToys for Tots.

1st Sgt Castillo shared that the Toys for Tots program started in 1947, and last year the local program distributed over 20,000 Christmas presents to over 5,000 kids.  This year they are hoping to provide even more to the children in Lubbock and several surrounding counties, including the giving of a book to each child this year for the first time.

Between now and December 18 when they will be officially distributed, in addition to the toys collected, like at today’s luncheon, the Corps will also spend $30,000 at Toys R Us buying additional toys. The money for that comes from donations such as the $600 which was donated today by our club’s members.

And, if you’d like to be a part of the great work our Monterey AMBUCS club does year round here in Lubbock, check out our upcoming Programs, and come join us for lunch during our Fall Membership Drive between now and the end of the month of November.
