on August 8 th , 2026, as the Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS hosted its annual fundraiser.
The event, dedicated to expanding mobility and independence for individuals with
disabilities, drew an enthusiastic crowd—and several distinguished guests from National
AMBUCS leadership. Among those in attendance were National President Gordon
Shaw, Big Hat President Terry Lanham, National Big Hat Treasurer/Secretary Jenny
ClementShaw, Past National President Carmela Davis, and Past Big Hat President Fina
Nett, each lending their support and encouragement to the chapter’s ongoing mission.
The evening’s most touching moments came from the guest appearances of this year’s
Amtryke recipients, who shared smiles, stories, and gratitude with attendees. Their
presence served as a powerful reminder of the lifechanging impact AMBUCS programs
have across the South Plains.
A highlight of the night was the presentation of a
brand new Amtryke to a young boy, sponsored by longtime supporter Carmela Davis.
Jansen’s excitement filled the room, drawing cheers and tears from attendees.
This year’s new venue proved to be a welcome upgrade, offering excellent air
conditioning that kept guests cool and comfortable throughout the festivities. Attendees
enjoyed an impressive spread of food, including a charcuterie table and two buffet
options—fajitas and pasta stations—ensuring there was something for everyone.
The live auction brought spirited bidding, featuring standout packages such as a Hilton
Head, South Carolina getaway and a Wyoming mountain escape, both of which drew
competitive interest. The silent auction offered an equally impressive lineup, including
handcrafted America 250th Celebration cornhole boards, a signed Texas Tech helmet
by former quarterback Sonny Cumbie, and a yearlong membership to Massage Envy,
one of the evening’s most sought-after items.
A major force behind the evening’s success was the group of Texas Tech therapy
students who volunteered throughout the event. They assisted with the silent auction,
cleared tables, supported guests, and worked tirelessly during cleanup—proving
themselves indispensable to the smooth operation of Summerfest.
Beyond the food, fun, and fundraising, Summerfest once again demonstrated the
strength of the Lubbock community. Every dollar raised will help provide therapeutic
Amtrykes and fund scholarships for Texas Tech therapy students—ensuring that
mobility, independence, and opportunity continue to grow right here at home.
Summerfest 2026 wasn’t just an event; it felt like a night where compassion showed up
in full force, commitment filled the room, and you could honestly see how much a
community can change a life when everyone pulls together.
